What are good selections for a "clean-up crew" for my saltwater aquarium?
For a saltwater fish-only environment, you can try brown leg hermit crabs and smaller hairy red leg hermit crabs. If you are experiencing hair algae problems, I would find a fix for the cause before actually addressing the problem.

How do you prevent diatoms from growing in my aquarium?
You have high silicates in your tap water. You need to purify your tap water somehow. I recommend using a reverse osmosis purification system outfitted with a silicate removing cartridge.

I was wondering how to grow algae from a saltwater tank.
Assuming there is some life in the tank, the easiest way is to leave the lights on constantly until you are satisfied with the amount of algae growth.

The rocks in my 55 gallon freshwater tank have started to get a torquoise tint to them. What is this?
Some types of algae exhibit this irridescence when aquarium lights reflect on them.

I have a 29 gallom freshwater tank, and recently purchased power compact lighting. I'm trying to start a planted tank, but the algae seems to overwhelm the plants. What can I do?
If you create a balance between lighting, organics in the water, and the number of plants you should have an algae-free tank. When your lights are on too long and the organic level is climbing without enough plants to absorb the nutrients out of the water, you will see imbalance in the form of an algae outbreak.

I have a 29 gallon saltwater tank. I have a brick red algae plant growing. I have to manually rip the stuff out of my tank due to it taking over.
Hi Christine,
It may be a type of red macro algae. Try a reef safe Tang Pygmy Angel or Rabbit Fish. They are good algae eaters in reef tanks.

I recently set up a saltwater tank. Its 80 gallons im running a 150 gallon sufficient filter, 2 70 gallon powerheads for circulation, and a 120 gallon protein skimmer. i've noticed theres a thin reddish brown film covering my rocks. What can i do to take care of this problem?
Hi Dustin,
If your not using r/o water you may want to try that. If your make-up/replacement water has high phosphate it may be contributing to the problem.
