  • I have an outside pond and was wondering if the reason I'm not getting any baby gold fish is because of frogs. I dont know how to get rid of the other than killeing them out and I tryed that once and ended up killy 4 of my 3 year old gold fish . I have set up a small pond set to put my females in and try to get babys. But I dont know how to tell a male from female gold fish. How old do they have to be before they have babys or do they lay eggs? Sorry for so many questions but I'm new at it

  • My Tiger Barb never laid her eggs when she was pregnant a month ago. I have many other fish with the Tiger Barb. Can you tell me why it didnt lay eggs?

Assuming that your fish was pregnant, first-time mothers are often unsuccessful at birth. If the tank is crowded, these conditions will definitely impede birth. Even if the mother was successful, chances are great that the fry would not make it due to predation from the other fish.

  • Should I keep my platys in a 10 gallon tank with no other fish or mix them with other fish in my 29 gallon tank?

You should keep them in your 10 gallon tank.

  • How do you sex the peach colored algae eaters and how hard is it to breed them?

I believe you are referring to an albino morph of a loriicarid species. They are sexed dimorphically. The males have larger heads and longer extensions on their tales. If you happen to have albino ancistrus catfish, they are not that difficult to breed.

  • Will mollies/platys/swordtails eat their fry?

Yes, when rearing fry it is always best to remove them to their own tank. Another option is to invest in a breeding net which seperates the fry from the parent molly.

  • I have a community freshwater fish tank with: bala sharks, barbs, and cory cats. Recently I noticed clear egg sacs filled with eggs stuck to surfaces inside my aquarium. What could these have been from?

Cory cats will breed this way, by leaving egg sacks stuck to surfaces inside the aquarium.

  • I have 3 red minor tetras and 2 long fin red minor tetras. I want to avoid them breeding, is there any way to avoid this without sexing them and seperating them to different tanks?

In short..no. Your fish want to continue their genetic survival so without them being sexed and seperated this is not realistic.

  • When a batch of molly fry are released, are the entire batch of fish released at once.

The answer is "sometimes" some mollys will eject all fry at once, while others may continue to release over a couple days.
