I have 5 painted Tetras in a 2 gallon aquarium and I noticed what I have been told is an egg sack. What do I do with it?
Painted Tetras are simply White Skirt Tetras which have been dyed (a barbaric practice). Tetras are egg scatterers and do not lay egg sacs. We're willing to bet those are snail eggs and they should be removed.

I believe that my Molly is pregnant. When she has babies, will she or the other mollies eat the babies?
Mollies usually do not eat their young, unlike their relatives, the swordtail and platy. However, just to be safe, it would not be a bad idea to have a thicket of dense plants or plastic plants for the younfg to hide in.

How many babies does a swordtail usually have and how long does it take after giving birth to the first one to have them all.
It really depends on the age of the female, but typical fry numbers range from 10 to 20. The birth can last up to an hour.

How can I tell if I have a male or female platies?
Look at the anal fin which is at the bottom of the fish before the tail (caudal fin). If the fin is a thin tube-like structure, that is a male. If the fin looks like a normal fin, that is a female.

How long is the gestation of platies?
About 28 days.

I recently purchased two small angelfish, and I do not know how to distinguish the sex of them. I would also like to know if you have any tips on how to breed these beautiful fish.
Sexing Angelfish is very difficult. Most breeders simply buy a group of Angels and allow males and females to pair off. That's the easiest way to get a pair. You will have to wait until the fish are sexually mature adults. At that time, the sex organs will descend a fraction of an inch so that you'll be able to make out the tips. The male will have a pointed protrusion. The female will have a blunt protrusion.
Breeding Angels is not difficult as they usually make good parents and will care for their eggs and fry. The pair should be kept in their own tank with a piece of flat slate leaned against the side of the tank. They'll lay eggs on the slate. You will have to raise some infusoria (one-celled animal soup - get a book!) for the fry to feed on once the pair lays eggs. To get them to breed, you should feed only frozen and freeze-dried foods. When they're ready, they'll do all the work! If you get a pair that eats their eggs, you'll need a book to describe how to hatch the eggs and raise the fry. A book's a good idea anyway.

How do common gold fish mate?
Goldfish usually will only breed outdoors in ponds. The season for them is late spring to early summer. Any male will breed with any female. When the water warms to 65 – 68 degrees, courtship begins. Males randomly chase females, while the colors of both male and female intensify, with the males relentlessly chasing the females into the plant thickets. After a few hours of intense driving, spawning begins. After spawning, the female ejects her eggs and they fall through the water and attach to sticky threads of plants. A large female can lay as many as 10,000 eggs. This ritual only takes 2-3 hours. Immediately and between spawning events, both males and female greedily eat the fish eggs, unless the pair is removed from the pond.

One of my parrot fishes layed alot of eggs in my tank. The eggs are not white but more of a translucent color and were like that for a day before becoming covered in a thick white material. I want to know if they will hatch.
Parrot cichlids are hybrids between two other cichlid species, and are typically sterile. The thick white coating you described is fungus, and a sure sign that the eggs will not hatch.

How can you determine males and females in clownfish?
Sex in clownfish is actually determined by theire rank within the group. All clownfish actually begin their life without a gender. Over time, the most dominant fish in a group of clownfish will become the female, and will grow to be considerably larger than all of the rest. The second most dominant will be slightly larger than the androgynous individuals, and will become the male. When one of these two is removed, the next fish in line will change to take the place of the missing one. Clownfish may only move up this heirarchy, from "neuter" to male to female, and can never revert back once the change is complete. Because of this, it is usually safe to assume that any clownfish that has been on its own for a significant length of time has become a female. Furthermore, you are guaranteed to form a pair if you purchase two small clowns and raise them together.

How can you tell if the eggs in an african cichlid's mouth are fertile?
Usually, time is the best way to tell. Fertile eggs will start developing and should hatch within a matter of days (this varies with species and tank conditions). If the eggs are not fertile, the female will dispose of them on her own.
