  • My clown loach has grayish patches on its skin. Shouldn't fungus be treated with an antifungal. Are some fungi really bacterial and others are just fungal?

Fungal infections are different from bacterial infections. Fortunatly Aquarium Pharmaceuticals also makes Pimafix which will treat both.

  • I have a painted tetra that has white puffy areas on her face and on some of her fins. I have treated the tank for ick 2 times and did the partial water changes, temmp is at 80 to 81. Nothing changed none of the other fish have these spots. I also have a few other painted tetras, 2 alage eaters,2cory cats,2 angels,2 gourami, 3 mollies, and a blue ram, they are in a 35 hex. Newly set up, everthing new. Could you please tell what this is on my fish and how to treat it.Thank you for any help!

White puffy areas sounds like a fungal infection. Recommend treating with a anti-fungal medication.

  • I have Betta's in fresh water bowls and recently noticed one of them has lost 2/3rds of its fin/tail. It does not appear ill ... very active and has plenty of energy. There was green algae on the rocks, etc. but that has always been since I have kept Betta's for a few years. I change the water about every 4-6 weeks using NovAqua condiioner and Amquel detoxifier. I have never had this problem before. Thanks

Your beta has a classic case of Fin/Tail rot. Whic is a bacterial infection. Usually caused from poor water quality. Recommend doing water changes weekly and treating with a combination of Melafix and Pimafix.

  • my betta does not have a disease .. i accidently dropped him while i was cleaning his bowl and he has one pop eye. should i do anything special or will he get better on his own? or will it just stay like that?

First off I must stress during treating for pop eye water quality is vitally important. With that being said you can try raising the temp in the bowl to 80 degrees, you can also treat with Melafix.

  • My betta fish jumped out of its container and was without water for some time. It is still alive but its fins in the back and on top are not moving. Do you think it is permanent paralysis and will it survive?

If your betta survives, chances are that it will have complete use of all its fins.

  • My rummy nose tetras are losing their "rummy noses". What can I do?

A depreciation in color in fish is a sign of a poor diet and/or declining water quality. Feed a variety of frozen food and maintain those regular water changes.

  • My daugther has a plecostomus in a small tank. We added a blood fin tetra,a black neon tetra, and a new platic plant. Came home and fish were all dead and encapsulated in what appears to be thick mucos. What caused this?

The white "mucos" is a fungis. However hard to say what actually killed them without knowing more about the tank and ect.

  • Can i use Quick Cure together with Maracyn and Maracyn-Two to prevent secondary infections from bacteria?

No. Never mix medications unless recommended on the package. I would treat for the more lethal of the infestations first.

  • I have a pair of colisa lalias that recently have changed darkened in their color. One consistently stays at the top and the other is near the bottom. The one that stays at the top looks to have swollen gills.

If your gourami does not appear to be grasping for air, perhaps there is not an infection affecting the gills. There is a chance that you are witnessing a male in the early stages of bubblenest formation.

  • My Laetacara curviceps has turned black all over his head. Is this a breeding color or disease?

A healthy fish with body coloring that becomes more intense is indicative of pre-spawning fish. Whether it happens or not remains to be seen. A diseased fish usually pales in color.
