  • What size RO/DI filter should I purchase for my 50 gallon reef tank? I will also use the water as drinking water.

You can get away with a 25 gpd purification system hooked up to a reservoir with a float valve/solenoid kit.

  • I am setting up a 20 gallon tank and plan on using an undergravel filter. Do I need any other filters? If I use an external filter, do I need to use carbon?

Using an additonal hang-on filter will do nothing but help out your tank. You should use the filter cartridges that come with it. An undergravel filter performs biological and mechanical filtration, but not chemical.

  • I just purchased an airstone. I realized that the bubbles are comming out from only 1 or 2 spots on the stone and there is no "wall" of bubbles. Is it a matter of time or what?

There is a chance that the airstone is defective. Also, make sure that your air pump is strong enough to drive the airstone if you have a long run of airline tubing.

  • I have an corner aquarium that has the following dimensions: 36" long on one side, 31" long on the other side, 54" long on the bow front, and 30" high. How do I find the volume for this tank?

If you had a true corner bowfront tank, the 2 sides should technically be the same length. Let's assume that both sides are 36". The formula is roughly A=1/2*r(squared)*angle of the sides. Your tank is around 132 gallons.

  • On a 65 gallon aquarium, can you cut out the top crossbar?

No!! The crossbar is what keeps the tank walls from bowing or even seperating.

  • I've got a 100 gallon tank with two power filters on each side. After a couple of weeks the volume of water decreases considerably in both filters. I've cleaned them and they are not clogged. Is this normal?

Depending on your current stocking level, the filter cartridges will become clogged on various intervals. If you have thoroughly rinsed out the cartridges and the flow is still diminished, you should clean the impellers free of sludge and debris.

  • I recently bought a tank 48"x24"x24" with cabinet. When you open the doors there is no supports in the center. Is this cabinet safe?

This is a standard design. Center supports are usually seen is tanks 30" or higher. You'll just need to confirm that the rest of the structure is reliable.

  • In my wet/dry filter the water in the box filter goes almost to the top. is that the correct height?

Your sump level should be no more than half the height of the sump. Try just removing water from the system that should lower the sump level.
