  • I have a bubble-eyed goldfish and one of the bubbles has popped. What do I do?

It is vital that you try to eliminate as much stress or potential stress in the fish. This includes poor water quality and aggression from other fish. In time, hopefully the eye will seal and fill with fluid.

  • I was wondering if common goldfish (carassius auratus) prefer light or dark conditions?

The common goldfish prefers a medium amount of light. You will observe them in the middle of the tank and down low when they are sifting throught the substrate.

  • I have about 50 guppies of all ages in a 29 Gal tank. They seem to only swim at the top of the tank. Why??

Your fish are high in your tank due to a lack of dissolved oxygen at the lower levels of your tank.

  • The Dragon Goby in my tank never seems to come out. And I worry about the general condition of a fish that I can't see! Any suggestions or advice to console my worries or what I might do by way of adjusting the decor of my tank?

Make shure first off that there is no aggression tword it from any other fish in your tank. Also redecorating the tank may make it so your goby is more prevalent in your tank.

  • Is it ok to put 2 red cap orandas, 2 silver dollars, 2 neon tetras, 2 guppies, and 2 algae eating fish together?

No, the Orandas are cold water fish, And the Silver Dollars will potentially eat the guppies.

  • My pleco snuck up on and attacked my tetras. What should I do?

You could try adding drift wood to the tank to create more territory but will probubly end up having to remove the pleco from the tank.

  • Is it better to keep a beta in a tank with a current or in still water? I am asking this because I got three betas all around the same time and I kept two in tanks with moving water and the other one was in a vase. One of the betas in the tanks has died a time back and the other one looks like it is heading in the same direction, but the one in the vase seems to be doing just fine.

When keeping Bettas in either a vase (no water current) or a tank with a water current it is important to know that Bettas, in their natural environment, exist in extremely low current areas. When keeping the betta in a tank with a current it is important to keep the flow to a minimum to, as closely as possible, replicate thier natural surroudings.

  • I am going to buy a 10 gallon tank for small, peaceful freshwater warm temperature tropical fish. I am doing a lot of research before i buy one. If all of these fish are under 3 inches, and they are all compatible with each other, how many fish can i approx. put in this aquarium? (lotz of coverage for them to "hide")

When stocking a ten gallon tropical fish tank the general guidelines are one inch of fish per gallon of water. That would put the max amount of livestock in the tank at 10. This however is considered a heavy bioload and would require an excellent filtration system. Furthermore when stocking a fishtank it should be done slowly (i.e. addition of three fish at one time, then wait a month add up to three more fish).

  • I have two red-bellied piranhas, but i dont know how to tell if they are male or female. Are there any distinctions between the male and female?

When keeping red-bellied piranhas sexing them can be difficult. One criteria that must be present is that the piranhas must be full grown, once they are the males will tend to be smaller with a brighter colored "red-belly".

  • My fish are mysteriously disappearing without a trace. The latest victim was a tiger barb. There is a 1" gap between the glass hood and the edge of the tank. I did not find a fish on the ground.

Your fish may have died and the corpse scavenged by the other fish. Hopefully the fish was not consumed through the intake of your filter. Finally, fish have been known to jump out of smaller holes than the one you have.
