  • My crab remains flipped over even when I place it upright. I noticed that its stomach is very white. What is this?

It appears that your crab is probably ready to molt. You should place it in a darker area of the tank where there is cover.

  • When I put snails in my 55 gallon saltwater aquarium, they die within about 30 seconds. My water tests are fine. What could be happening?

This is quick! They might not be dead, just withdrawn. Snails are very sensitive to changes in water parameters such as temperature, pH, salinity, and alkalinity. You need to acclimate them very slowly.

  • I have a reef tank and recently noticed small white growths on the live rock that resemble tiny white fanworms or anemones. What could they be?

These are a species of feather dusters and are harmless.

  • I have a marine reef tank that has been running for a year now. However, my Pumping Xenia's pumping motions have really slowed down almost to a stop. What can I do?

You can try squirting some Iodine on them and creating a moderate current around them by aiming the jets of your returns or powerheads in their area. Afterwards, try introducing a liquid food to see if they react to it.

  • What causes SPS corals to bleach out in reef tanks?

SPS corals are a challenge to keep. You need plentiful lighting and a very stable environment for them. Perhaps your lighting is insufficient, or they were burned by extremely powerful lighting. They also like good water current in the tank. Obviously, the water temperature must remain below 80 F.

  • I recently purchased a anenome for my 30 gallon tank, but since I have gotten him all he does is hide under a rock and only comes out to feed at night. Is this normal?

Anenomes will generally find and stay in a spot that they find comfortable for themselves. They are considered to be an animal to be kept by advanced reef aquarists due to their spacial and water quality needs.

  • How do you remove a hermit crab from its shell without hurting it? I collect shells and love the shell he presently resides in!

You should never physically remove the hermit crab from the shell because they will not leave calmly. The best method is to stock the tank full with different shells and wait for him to hopefully move into a new shell.

  • Why do my hermit crabs become less active as time goes on?

Hermit crabs are usually not fed in aquarium stores so when they arrive in your tank, they are inquisitive and hungry. You can also try adding some extra empty shells for them to swap out.

  • I just put in 25 hermit crabs into my 25 gallon tank. I only have 1 fish in it and 20 pound of live rock. I'm worried that the crabs are not getting enough to eat. Should I worry or are the crabs probably getting enough food?

Do not be worried about feeding your hermit crabs. Imagine them as your tank's clean up crew. Do not go out of your way to feed the crabs by adding more food to your fish's diet. Crabs are scavengers. They will eat the uneaten food and keep your live rock healthy. My advice would be to not worry about your crabs.

  • If i put a tiger shrimp in a tank would eat any fish?

Depending on how big the fish are in your tank Yes it could.
