View Full Version : Spider Webs in aquarium?

My 29 gallon, freshwater tank, has white spider web looking "growths" in it. It started on the plastic plants and although I cleaned them off, it continues to grow on live plants, the heater, and the floor of the aquarium. The best I can describe it is it looks like spider webs or cotton balls.

I have never heard of this so I won't be much help. I will ask Dave to take a look at this thread and see if he knows what is causing this.

Hi aquaman and welcome!
You have fungus! The fact that it's growing on your plastic plants is a giveaway.
The leading cause is overfeeding. When uneaten food is allowed to collect, especially in a new aquarium, fungus will attack it and grow. Best bet is to vacuum the substrate and change some water, removing all that you can remove. That fungus will probably not harm the fish unless they had open wounds, but the best way to get rid of it is to cut back feeding.
