I know most barbs can be aggressive, especially the tiger barbs being fin nippers, but I was wondering about cherry barbs. I'm starting to have a very mild case of hair algae and I know cherry & gold barbs have been known to feast on them.
I was wondering how aggressive (if at all) the Cherry barbs can be. I'm also hoping that they are compatible with stock. I currently have angelfish, clown loaches, zebra danios, guppies, upside down cats, african butterfly, Harlequin rasboras, otocinclus cats, and a bristtlenose pl*co in the tank.

I have rosy barbs in with my angels and others. They ate all the thread algae and haven't bothered any other fish. When I first got them they darted around so much I wasn't sure I would keep them, but they settled down fairly quickly. They do eat a bit of the plants, but not too much. They also tend to get some kind of spots or splotchy stuff on them, but it never lasts long and no one else gets it so I guess it's OK.

I didn't want to get anything too big, such as a rosy barb, which is why I was wondering about the cherry barbs.
How many do you have?

I have 2 rosy barbs. They aren't very big, but maybe they get bigger. I moved my 2 adult angels to the 10 gal fry tank and the fry to the 30 gal so they could grow faster and the barbs seemed interested but left them alone. The next day I thought one of the fry was missing (it wasn't) and so moved the barbs in with the angels. I know it is not a good situation, but the 4 of them are doing fine so far in the 10 gal. I need the fry to get big enough to move on because I'm moving soon and because they just weren't growing fast enough. They're still pretty small considering they're at least 4 months old. If the thread algae doesn't come back while the rosy barbs aren't in the tank I might give them away and get something else, but they haven't been a problem.
