Hi all,
I use peat filtration in my 'conditioning' tanks to help my tetras get into breeding condition.
But I have this concern that maybe soft, acid, peaty water is not the best of environments for nitrification bacteria; that the peat will hinder their thriving. I often get nitrite in the water - which I deal with with frequent 50% water changes.
I'm thinking this, because I once read somewhere that peat lowers the bacteria count.
Is my concern totally unfounded? Is peat harmful to filter bacteria?
Any help greatly appreciated.
Regards.
