I have a male betta fish now that is living in a glass vase( not a peace lilly vase). I know that you can't put two male betta in an aquarium together, but can you put them in with other species of fish?
I am thinking of tetra and dwarf guorami, and an algea eater, catfish type, but please tell me if there are any fish that can be put with them.

hi, i'm a new member here, and i see that this part of the forum is not very active....hmmm...
but i hope i can help...
it is true that bettas can't be placed with other male bettas or they'll fight. but, little do some people know, that...if you have a large enough aquarium, (at least 40 gallons) and your male bettas have never been separated from birth, you would be able house them in the same aquarium...there would be occasional skirmishes, but nothing serious.
and yes...they can be placed with other community fish...but beware, their long flowing fins can be seen as a delicacy to some fin nippers like tetras, angelfish, and female bettas. he is also a fin nipper as well, gouramis are known to be fin nippers, but i find that they are okay with my bettas. bettas have mucho personality, so you might find yours shy, so you might wanna have a lotta nooks and crannies for him to hide in like plants and rocks. or he might be the curious type, where he'll explore all the fish, and even annoy them.
bettas are really succeptible to "ick" and fungus. so make sure you check on him for fin rot and the such. keep him away from really big fish, and if you plan on keeping him with female bettas, make sure there are at least 3 or more.
throw in some floating plants to kill the strong water current so that they can rest, cuz they're used to still water.
other than that...make sure the water quality is good....hope this helps at all
