Hi,

I have been having trouble with some of my fish. I've had the tank for about
two months now. The first
fish I added were paradise fish, and they settled in just fine. A week later
I added two dwarf gouramis, but
after two days the female started showing signs of some kind of disease. She
would not eat, she was
breathing fast, and just hanging around the middle of the tank. She also had
slimy whitish waste comming
from her belly. She died after a day. I replaced her with another female and
she was doing fine. About two
weeks later, I added a pair of Kribs. The female was fine for a few days. One
morning when I gave them
flake food, she would not eat. She was also just hanging around the middle of
the tank, amongst all the
plants. She started breathing fast, and later, died aswell. Two weeks later,
the male krib started showing
signs. He also breathed very fast, his belly become fat, but the scales did
not stick out. He also did not
eat, and would not leave his cave. He later died in his cave. What could be
causing these problems. I
can't understand that only some fish become sick and die. If something was wrong
with the water, all the
fish should be affected. Last night I also saw that the new female dwarf gourami
was also breathing fast
and not eating, and she has been in the tank for a month. This morning she was
dead. When I checked her
over, her swim bladder was totally deflated, and when I gave a her a light squeeze,
red fluid came out of
her anus. What is the matter. I also have a problem with yellow water. Every
week when I change 10% of
the water, the colour of the water I take out has the colour of beer. What causes
that. I never had this
problem with my larger tank. How can I get rid of it, will activated carbon
help. I also saw someting strange
in the tank last night which I have never seen before. The lights have been
of for about 4 hours. I turned
the light on to check on the fish, and the whole tank was invested with little
white worms. What are these,
and are they hazardous to my fish. I also saw them when I treated the fish for
white spot. They seemed
to come out of the gravel. And lastly, the paradise fish where spawning. The
male made a huge foam
nest, and the eggs where safe in the nest. The male was also doing a good job
in keeping the eggs in the
nest. When I checked the next morning the whole nest was gone and so where the
eggs. What happenend,
did he eat the eggs? My filter setup is an eheim classic external filter with
mechanical and biological
filtration. Please give me answers to my problems, so that I can enjoy me fish
tank without having to
worry about the fish for so long.
