I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but I am in need of suggestions. I have a 75 gallon freshwater tank that is 5 years old. We have a good sized plecostomus, jack dempsey, and silver dollar and some smaller fish. We've enjoyed the tank and taken care of it with our kids, but the time has come to move on. What do you do with a full setup like ours? After 5 years, I'd like the fish & aquarium to go to a good home, but don't know where to even begin. One of the local pet shops will take it all off our hands, but I'm not impressed by them. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks! <img border="0" alt="[Help!]" title="" src="graemlins/1zhelp.gif" />

Hi Ramsey

This is always a problem when you want to get out of the hobby.

Some suggestions

- talk to friends (this gives you the most control over who gets your set-up)

- try an ad in a local paper

- many fish stores will allow you to put a notice on their bulletin board

- post in a local buy/sell aquarium forum on the internet

- check your local schools (some teachers would love you to donate this for their classroom)

- some radio stations have a "pet corner" and will make announcements like this

- put notices up in local stores

Only you know how comfortable you are having strangers contact you. In today's world, be careful. All suggestions are local as you probably don't want the hassle of packing and shipping live fish.

I hope this helps

Hi Vickie,

Thanks so much for the ideas!

I had not thought of the schools, what a great idea! The educational value would be wonderful if I can find someone willing to care for them. I'll contact the local schools, then if no luck, I try posting on bulletin boards etc. I'm not crazy about contacts from strangers, but will deal with it if I have to.

Thanks again!

Ramsey :)

Ramsey, I am new to the board, and this is the first I have seen of your post. Do you still have the tank? If so, I know of a Day Care Center in Bloomington/Normal that might be interested. I would take care of shipping and set up and, if the Center is amenable, I will care for the tank. I am in B/N weekly, so no problem doing it. Let me know if I can help.
