I have a 55gal. tank with 3 young Oscars. New to me about 4-6 weeks. No other fish in tank. Utilize AquaClear 500 Filter. Performed cleaning just a few days ago, vacumed, gleaned glass, rinsed filter and did 70% water change. Just about a week after this I discovered little white worms visible to the naked eye just floating around. Under microscope, unremarkable, noted paristaltic locomotion and cilia. No definitive head/tail diferentiation except they prefered to go in on direction, presumedly the head. Fish don't have any visible sings distress or discomfort, they don't seem to be eating them and they appear to be avoiding them. Moved fish to 15gal. tank will little carry over of worms as possible.
QUESTIONs:
1) Do the fish need any treatmentand if so, with what?
2) Does the 55gal. tank need to be completely broken down and sterilized?
Any assitance would be greatly appriciated.
Thank you.
Eric

:HP I noticed today as I watched my oscar try to swallow a catfish twice his size that I have tiny little white worms crawling all over the glass, about two inches abouve the gravel. They are about a 1/4 inch long, maybe smaller, and are thinner than a hair. they are floating in the water and everything. I doubled the salt in my tank to see what would happen, and they dont seem to like the high salt, but its not killing them. My catfish seems a little more stressed than normal, and my oscar is eating as much now, but all the fish still eat. They arent flat worms, I know that much, but I dont know if they are hurting my fish or not. What would be my best approach at getting rid of them, and what are they??? I have been looking for answers for days now, and cant find any. :HP :HP :HP

I had some little white worms about the size you are describing, but mine prefered to mostly stay above the water line. They seemed to be food related, after switching foods they went away eventually. They didn't seem to bother the fish at all.

Sounds like planaria, sign that you are overfeeding.
