Hello there fellow fish obsessors,

My first of meny questions to this forum is can plants servive in a
twenty gal hex with an UGF and two angels?

Right now I have intraduced 4 plants not sure what they are, I recived them from my friends 129 gal in which his tank is overflowing with plants. He put potting soil in first then rock mixted with shells (due to a move he and his wife's tanks gravels got mixted) any way his plants look good but my plants after 9 days are looking a little less healthy. :FS

UGFs usually aren't good with plants because of how they work. If they aren't already I'd move them as far away as possible from the filter and see if that improves things.

Thank you for replying to my question.

I do have another Question though. PLease allow me to explain alittle of what I have:

I have a twenty Gal. Hex with a hang on Ehiem 122 pumps aprox 180 gal per hour, also a powerhead 301 as a UGF. Med to large rock with some sea glass mixed in. Two Angels and two Danios(cycling fish)

Q. would you recomend even as I have rock, water, and fish taking out the UGF and replanting?

Q. How should I build my rocks to alow the best groth?

Agian thank you, Chapy:cool:

I'm not an expert so I can give you that detailed of an answer, but yes, if you want plants the UGF isn't necessary, and it's probably even necessary to remove it for them to survive. The only concern would be to make sure the filter that is left is rated high enough to cover the tank (1.5 - 2x what is recommended is the usual rule i.e. if you have 20 gallons of water, you want a filter that's rated for 30-40 gallons) and as far as I can tell the eheim you listed is rated for 40 gallons so you're good.

I'm sorry but I can't answer your question about arranging the rocks, hopefully one of the people that can will see your post soon.

I think a moderator should move this to its own thread so it doesn't look as if it's just part of the intro. As to the UGF, you have to remove it if you aren't using it. It will cause problems if you don't as noted elsewhere on this site. You will probably be happier without it anyway, if you want your plants to thrive.
