Where to get earth worms for fish

The title pretty much explains it, but i was wandering, i've read that i should fead my fish worms, but what i don't know is, is it safe to take them from my back yard, i don't want to bring anything harmful into my tank that may have came with the worms, If not do i just go to my local bait store and get some,

Did what you read mean tubifex and blood worms as opposed to earth worms? Both of those types of worms are available at pet stores.
