Hello! Recently I decided to make the change and go with cichlids in my 40 gallon aquarium. The 40 gallon is filtered by a emperor 400 and a large penguin filter. I know, a lil over kill eh ? Oh well, what can it hurt. Anyhow I am going to attempt to post a picture of the tank in this thread, if it works correctly. :D The picture is a little dark , but it'll allow you to get the general idea of how the tank looks. Yes currently you see other fish in the aquarium but they are going to be moving out soon. A online friend of mine breeds yellow labs, (labidochromis caeruleus),and is going to send me some! So as soon as its warm enough for shipping I'll officially be a cichlid keeper again. Anyhow since I havnt kept cichlids for years I have a few questions. My tap water ph is 7.8, I've read that cichlids prefer a ph of 7.6, than other things I've read says 8.2. 8.2 is high, a marine tank is suggested to be at 8.3! However I did buy some Kent cichlid buffer and can use that if nessecarry. Anyhow , onto the pic! Thanks in advance for the help! (Sorry so long!)

I didn't see any questions. BTW, as far as filtration goes, the only time you would have too much filtration is when you take out of the water what may be good for the fish. For example, Arowanas prefer water that isn't filtered by activated carbon which takes out certain elements that are good for it. Also, if your cichlids are the plant destroying kind, I would suggest removing the live plants and replace them with fake.
