Does anyone know anything about improving the color in goldfish? I received a fantail as a gift, it was purchased at a local WalMArt. The living conditions must not have been the greatest for the fish. Since I received the fish I have noticed the colors brighning and some showing up where there were none before. I am trying to figure out if in time all the colors I see in the fish will come out?

Hi,
This has puzzled me as well I had a Ryukin for 8 years when I purchased her she was all silver but as she grew her color completly changed to a bright orange! Now I have 3 Orandas 1 a calico color, black, white, and orange. The other 2 are plain orange, well on does have a trace around her mouth like she wearing black lipstick! The other day I noticed that now she has black in her tail along with black on her fins! I think it's pretty neat I have tried to look up this information and they just can't answer why this happens. I would just enjoy and watch out for more changes!

i do believe that Goldfish undergo Color changes as they mature. I have a regular goldfish( little sister won it at the fair downtown last year) that has yet to change, but i have had goldfish change on me in the past. I am looking into more Goldies(mainly a red cap oranda, a red/white ryukin and a red/black ryukin, i have seen a place that claims to have all white ryukins, but they are seasonal. i want one. ALOT) and hope to see color changes throughout their lifetime:)

I have also noticed some color changes in my Oranda. He is black, yellow, and white (Bam Bam) and when I first bought him his hood was solid black. It now has some yellow mixing into it. It's really strange looking now... almost like a black and yellow clown wig. I'm glad to hear my fish is not the only odd-ball!! :p

Hi ABBYSFISH,

lol I had forgotten all about the forum until I recieved an e-mail from you. :D At this time I have 2 tanks all different colors of Orandas. They are so pretty I love their tails and also the different colors. They are getting bigger each day hopefully they will live a long life. :D

No color changes in these yet I'm enjoying them so much. :)
