My son just received a goldfish from the fair. It is orange in color, about 2" long. It looks healthy, but has red gills. I'm concerned about putting it in the tank with the other goldfish because I don't want it to infect the other fish if it is a disease or something. I've read that red gills may mean gill flukes, and I've also read that some goldfish just have red gills and are healthy. Does anyone know what red gills mean in a gold fish?

Welcome to the forum!

Sorry no one from this area has responded yet.

For most fish, red gills are normal. If the gill covers are gaping and/or the gills are pale, then a parasite may be indicated.
