I purchased 2 columbian sharks(also known as jordon catfish), in March of this year. When I bought them they were about 2"long. After bring them home,I was told that they were brackish water fish, which the clerk at the pet store didn't tell me.(I have them in a freshwater tank) I've found information that say's they can live in freshwater all the time and others say they need brackish water as they get older. The sharks are now 6"long and still fine I've always had them in my freshwater tank. I don't want them to suffer/die but I still don't know what I should do?? They are in a established 125 gallon fresh water tank right now.
thanks in advance for any suggestion's ? My profile has a list of all the other fish in this aquarium.

Hi Gypsy

According to this web site http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?siteid=21&pCatId=936, they prefer a little salt in their water. When I look at the suggested tank mates, most are fresh water fish. From that I would say you could probably keep them in fresh water their entire lives, or brackish water, or as the article suggests, salt water as well.

This site has some more info for you http://www.aquariacentral.com/faqs/brackish/FAQ4.shtml#4b

I hope this helps you keep your Arius seemani happy.
