Hi everyone,
I would like some suggestions on what type of fish would be good in a new tank I will be setting up - I will be moving 2 of my gourami's from my "overstocked" 10 gallon to the new tank. So what do you think would be a good cycling/combination fish with the gourami's? (do you think the gourami's would be okay to switch over to the new tank since my 10 isn't even finished cycling yet)? Any input and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
thanks again,
Debbie

Check my signature for what I have in my 29....I recommend any of these fish, they get a long great with my opaline gourami. Stock level will depend on if you get the 20 or the 29.....obviously you will be able to put a few more in a 29, which is what I have. You won't be able to put quite as much in though with 2 gouramis instead of just 1. I'm overstocked though, so don't follow my numbers. :o

Also, for cycling, the two gouramis alone will do fine. You should only stock a new, uncycled tank 25%. After the cycle is finished, add 1 to 2 fish every 7-10 days until completely stocked. If it's a standard 20 gallon, the max number of fish is 26 (adult) fish inches.......for a standard 29, the max is 30 (adult) inches of fish. Either way, you will only want 6 or 7 (adult) fish inches in there for the cycle, and two dwarf gouramis are about 5 inches.

Thanks everyone - another question...will Barbs do good with Gourami's? I was thinking of the Tiger Barb and if so - do they need to be kept in schools of about 6 or are a pair okay? male/female? (We have no "mom and pop" stores around here anymore just a lot of Petco's - so it really is a problem finding out which is male and female for any fish I get because the people working at Petco don't know much :(

According to peteducation.com it will work. They do need a school (6-8) though so that they will pick on each other and leave everything else alone. It will limit what else you can put in there though because they are pretty aggressive. HTH

I would not put any "fin nippers" in with the gouramis because they will mip the feelers (pectoral fins) of the gouramis
