Okay, the choice is Rena Filstar XP2 or the Eheim ECCO 2233??

Each has merits. The ECCO 2233 is rated for up to 60 gallons and says it will do 145 gph, but I have heard that the Eheim ECCO is an awesome filter.

The XP2 is rated for a 75 gallon tank and is purported to do 300 gph (probably not). Whichever filter is going on my 55 set-up with an Aquaclear 70 that is rated for a tank up to 70 gallons and is said to do 300 gph.

Vote on which filter you would buy if it were up to you!! Thanks.

One filter is rated at 145 the other is rated at 300 gph. They most likely got those ratings with no media inside. I've hear that the xp2 is really good in fact better than the xp3 by some. Anyways I'm betting that the xp2 will have greater output than the other one. Another factor could be how much media do you want to put inside the filter. I don't know how much the Eheim ECCO 2233 can hold so other people would know about that better.

I've never actually seen (or used) the Eheim filters, but I have heard they are somewhat complicated to use and a lot of the instructions/documentation are in German. Maybe Don Vito will chime in.....I know he has one.

Anyway, I like the XPs.......they are easy to use, allow for lots of media, etc. My 2 cents.

Well, as of now price isn't the issue because they are up for bid on ebay, and I have no idea what they are going to end up being. Cheaper than brand new from a website that for sure.

I guess I should have said.....regardless of cost which filter would you chose?? :LOL

I'd still go with the XPs. I did a lot of research before I bought any of mine and am very happy with them. (OK, I guess I'm up to 4 cents now).

:LOL Good one Mom!! I'm just getting a feel for everyone's opion. So far the XP2 is winning....I'm keeping my eye on the bids though. I think if the ECCO stays anywhere near the price it's at now I may have to go for it. Would that be bad?

The ECCO would work but the xp2 is rated at almost twice the gph as the ECCO so even if the numbers aren't accurate I'm willing to bet my fish that the xp2 would probably give you a higher output
