My molly is in a breeding net now in a 10 gallon tank with a pleco, a female betta, and 2 other balloon mollies. She has been steadily getting larger, and now i believe trying to give birth. But all that's happened is a protruding red nub swollen out in the anal region. It seems that this is not normal, and she has been in this condition for the last 18 hours. No babies, and I doubt any will come. What can I do to help the situation. I've had this tank for over a year. Thanks for your help...

That just means that she's about ready to give birth (the babies are ready to come out). It might take a day or two before it happens but it should come. Another sign is when you look at her from behind, her stomach looks boxy. It shouldn't be too long from now if she is truly gravid (fish word for pregnant) but then again, it is pretty hard to tell with ballon mollies. They always look gravid. :D Adding some aquarium salt to her water might also entice her to give birth. Just the beta wouldn't fair too well from the salt.

Just a question, what kind of pleco do you have?

Thanks for the message, what a relief. :o We have a dwarf pleco. We are not exactly sure what kind it is, and it seems hard to find info on them. Any insight?

Could you post a picture of it? There are many different kinds of dwarf plecos.
