Canister Filter

I currently have 150 gal. freshwater tank w/ 2-400 Emperor Bio Wheel Filters. I perform 30%-40% every 4-6 weeks. Do I need more filtration (i.e. canister filter) or can I get by with what I have; assuming I keep up on my part by doing water changes? :FS

test your water for nitrate levels before your next water change. if they are acceptable then your routine is A-1. :)

I would personally do a 10% + water change every week, that is only 15 galons or so each week instead of the 45 to 60 gallons when you do them. There will be less chance to change the temp or other water conditions which could stress the fish and lower their resistance to diseases that are in the tank.
