View Full Version : ick
This is in addition to the comment I just posted. What is ick, do I have to treat the fish for it, and how? Can they die from it? If they have ick because I am stressing them with all the partial water changes(to get my ammonia down)what other choices do I have?

Ick is something you have to treat and Quick Cure is a good medication for it. Your fish can die from Ick and it should be treated ASAP. Because you added so many fish to a new tank you have only a couple of choices. First treat the ick and hope for the best results or remove the fish until the tank has cycled and then add the only a couple of fish at a time.
Stress and temperature changs cause ick. When your doing all these water changes are you making sure the water is the same temperature as the aquarium water ? Sudden changes in temperature will cause ick outbreaks in already stressed fish. I agree with what finaddict suggested, or you could also SLOWLY raise the aquarium temperature to about 82 - 83 degrees and leave it there for a few days. This will also kill ick...
