So I'm not sure how this particular forum is going to work, but this seemed to be the best place to post. My husband tells me I am quite picky about where I shop, and I'm just curious to know what standards y'all use when choosing a favorite LFS. I have rejected one because of sick or what seemed to me to be poorly kept fish, one because it was affiliated with the sick fish store (co-owned), and one because there seemed to be a large quantity of roaming cockroaches. So how picky are you?

Incidentally, for those local to me, as of several years ago, the feed store in San Marcos seemed to be the best place to get fish there (yes, the feed store - the owner keeps tropicals as a hobby and has a decent selection - right there between rabbit cages and horse feed; also quite knowledgable about his stock). And so far, the Pet Connection in Cedar Park (are we allowed to put names up?) seems good, but I have not had much occasion to ask questions - they do, however, have some of the best prices in town for Eclipse filter refills.

I live far from Texas, but my guidlines for choosing a LFS are in 3 phases,1-amount of different species available, 2-knowledge of the employees(i always enjoy testing employees of new LFSs),3-prices,prices of fish are already high so why bother with a store that is going to over charge me.As far as the condition of the store ie:cockaroaches, that doesnt bother me much as long as they meet my other 3 standards,my very 1st LFS,(AND STILL MY ALL TIME FAVORITE)was run out of a depleted one time gas station, still had the original floor(with all the original grease marks!!!):D

This forum (Marketplace Reports) is reserved for feedback on transactions that happen in Aquarists Marketplace (please note the discription of the forum). Feedback is a way, that over time, will take away some of the unknown when you are dealing with private people.

I'm moving this to The Refugium.
