Would an Eheim 2215 Cannister Filter be a good addition to my 55 gallon saltwater tank along with my Emperor 400? The tank will only have fish in it for now, but I may decide to get a reef tank in a couple of years.
Thanks.

Scubaman, I'm going to leave your question for someone from the store to answer.
I would like to point out, since you say you may have a reef tank in a few years, that most people with reef tanks do not use a canister filter but use a skimmer. The canister filter usually increases the nitrates that are in the system and many corals prefer 0 nitrates. Some go as far as calling canister filters nitrate factories.
If you decide to go the skimmer route, then it will work fine for your fish only tank as well.

sorry, I forgot to mention that I do have a protein skimmer. It's a Red Sea Prizm Skimmer.

ok i dont mean to be an unkind sounding person, but it is often easier for the people to answer you questions if you fill out the size, equipment, and livestock of you tank. this helps eliminate some misunderstandings, and such things as the skimmer thing:)
this is to help both the poster and the replyer in narrowing down problems by eliminating certain items that may cause the issue in the first place. just trying to make everybody's use of the BB easier and more efficient:)

Scubaman, the Eheim 2215 would handle your tank with no issues, especially when you are running a skimmer as well.
Many people remove the filter media of their canister and use the pump to circulate water only. Then when it is necessary to run carbon or some such thing, they put it in the canister as an easy way to ensure flow through the carbon, etc. It has a good, reliable reputation.
