The best and the worst in Portland.
BEST- Cayes Aquarium
13730 S.E. Division
Cayes Exotic Pets (http://cayesexoticpets.citysearch.com)
At least one of the owners is usually in the store and the staff is extremely knowledgable and helpful. They know their customers and the fish they keep. On more than one occasion they have saved me much grief by dissuading me from buying fish they knew could be a problem in my tank.
Mostly freshwater, but a large selection of saltwater as well. Good quality fish, excellent variety, good return policy.

WORST- CB's Tropical
181'st and East Burnside
Beautiful display tanks in their lobby. It's too bad the fish for sale aren't nearly as nice. Staff is less than helpful, even when you are the only person in the store. Small selection of fish and many times they look sick or are in dirty tanks. Prices aren't bad though.

Interesting... I live near Portland too, but my experiences with the above mentioned two stores were exactly the opposite...

Another good place to shop in the Portland area is Hollywood Aquarium. They also have many custom designed tanks for sale and on display in their showroom.

Caye's is one of the best in Portland, They get 95 % of my business, the owners are always there, great prices, and once they get to know you they really take care of you. This is one of those places where it pays to shop at the same place ! I wish they did more hard corels but Upscales has a great store for that. CB's , yes what a joke, I dont know how this place has stayed in business so long ! Pets mart has a better selection ! I just stopped by there because I had to kill some time, the guy working there did'nt even acknowledge my existance!

I have family in Portland, and I visit a few times a year. Every time I visit I make it a must to stop by Cayes Exotic Pets. Very nice place, people, and prices. My cousins lured me in there, and I got hooked on the hobby and the store. Believe it or not, I even call them when I am not in town for advice.
