Hello,

I am need of some info on an Eheim 2215 Canister filter.... I have owned this filter for 10 years.

The inlet and outlet hoses for the 2215 get a buildup of sludge/algae very quickly which really impedes the water flow out of the spray bar. I can clean the hoses and the water will spray 5-6 inches out of the bar. Two weeks later the spray has reduced to 3-4 inches… and quickly deteriorates to 1-2 inches in about a month.

I know a lot of people that use the Eheim Canister filters (newer ones) and don’t seem to have any problems with this.

· Do you think the hoses might have some type of deterioration in them causing the debris to stick to them so bad?

· Do you think the newer material the hoses are made of now might be better at not supporting the buildup of this stuff?

I realize all hoses need a routine, scheduled cleaning…. It just seems to happen so fast.

PH = 7.0
NH3/Nitrite/Nitrate.. basically none
Water conditions are excellent

Thanks for sharing your comments and/or suggestions...

I have a newer 2128. I also had trouble with my tubes getting covered with dark algae in less than 2 weeks. Furtunately, in my case, the growth stopped once the surface was almost covered and hardly seems to impede the flow.

If your tubes are in bright light (mine aren't) that could be the problem. Other than that I can only suggest that you try getting some new tubing (just enough for one of the lines to test it) and give that a go.

Thanks for the reply.

Actually the tubes are in hardly any light at all. Between the tubes/tubing being so dark (green) and little to no light out side of them... it amazes me how fast this buildup occurs.

I am wondering if it is actually an algae... kind of hard to believe an algae could grow so fast in these poor conditions. Since the Filter is so old, I think I will try the new hoses.

Thanks again....
