Quartine tank?

Yes I am thinking of setting up a quarantine tank. My question is doesn't it still need to be cycled in and the biological/mechanical filtration as well? ( a small emporer with a biowheel would work?)I realize you probably do not need substrate in the quarantine tank or do you? Also, how long do you quarantine your new fish before adding it to the main tank? I was thinking of using some cycled water from the main tank to start up the quarantine tank as well. Would a 10 gallon tank work? I understand the fish is already under stress due to moving it from it's original home to my home so I wonder by doing this does it stress the fish even more to add it to the quarantine tank and then move it again only to have to aclimate to the main tank as well.........
