A couple of days ago I was pricing an air pump for my fish tank at the aquarium department in wallyworld and got into a short friendly conversation with a woman that was looking to buy a power pump for her fish tank.
Anyway, trying to obtain some of her fish expertise, I was telling her that I had just started keeping fish about one year ago and was enjoying it tremendously although it was quite an expensive hobby.
She replied that she had a 10 gallon tank and had been keeping fish going on fourteen years and managed to kill all of her fish at one time or another but had always started over.
Amazed, I asked, "My goodness what happened?" She said that she cleaned her aquarium tank by washing it out with soap and water but sometimes wasn't able to remove all of the soap residue and that accounted for the dead fish.
Me, being new at fish keeping and not being able to keep my mouth shut, replied, "Well everything that I have read from other fish keepers say never to use any kind of soap in fish tanks!" She emphatically replied, "Oh yes, there are certain kinds of soaps that fish tanks can be cleaned with".
At that, I cut the conversation short and walked away thinking to myself, "Well, I guess she hasn't found that soap yet".
I thought you all might enjoy the story although it is sad because we after all are like gods to our fish. Their lives are in our hands to do with as we please whether right or wrong....
