Each and every year i put Goldfish in a creek by my house. And at the end of every year there is only 1 left? (they seem to stay in just one part of stream,) Are goldfish Cannibals? Every year i put in around 5 and always end up with only one.

Are they eating eachother? I have placed them in part of stream where there is no trout. Whats going on here.
Would appreciate all help.
Thanks

I would not advise putting any non-native species in a creek for any reason. They upset the ecosystem by eating other animals and competieng with other animals for food. if they were to survive and breed, they could cause a disaster (cane toads and rabbits in australia). As for the reason they are gone, they probably swam away or were eaten by herons or raccons or other animals. The extreme cold of a creek in the winter (unless you live in the south, then it would be the heat in the summer) would also have a negative effect, because streams are generally colder than ponds. I am surprised there were any left at all. I have never heard of goldfish cannibalism if the fish were about the same size. Please stop putting goldfish in the creek, if they were to acclimate, they would cause competition with natural wildlife, and if not, they would probably starve or freeze (or boil) to death, which isn't very nice.
