hi, i just got a goldfish yesterday, the smallest one i can find...
i put him in my bowfront 2.5 gallon tank with a hang on nano filter from red sea. i know eventually this goldfish will need a 10 gallon tank or something, but for now this is the best i can do, and my 20 gallon tank is tropical so i think he's better off in here. i used arrowhead mt. spring water, and im feeding him tetrafin goldfish flakes. i used a product from nutrafin called Cycle to jumpstart the bacteria, half a capful to be exact... the nano has a coarse foam pad for bacteria, a carbon filter pad from fluval, and 2 types of just filter floss of some sort, one fine and one coarse. if their is anything more i can do please let me know... the lady at the petstore told me to change 1/2 gal of water every 2 weeks, but since its cycling, i "can" go as far as 1 gallon every week or half gallon change twice a week, yeah i need some advice on that part, thanks

For now the tank looks ok but I would get a bigger tank I've always had a good hand with goldfish my oldest was 8 years old or so. One suggestion to you I would buy some other food alternating the food. maybe give him the flakes you mentioned a couple days and feeding him brine shrimp flakes as well. I also feed my goldfish unshelled frozen peas chopped up fine, I've heard it's good for their tummies and they love it! I have 3 orandas now in a big tank they are very happy!
