i was wondring if salt mix ever gets old cause ihave a bout 45 gallons worth and i have only had it for a couple of months and it is hard as a brick so i was wondering if i can still use it or if i have to buy new stuff

The salt it self will be fine. But if it is hard as a brick then this shows that it was expose to air and there will be loss of trace elements. IMO I would throw it out and buy new. But that just me.

As Alf pointed out, salt that is exposed to moisture will harden and may need to be disposed of. It's happened to me before, I found a somewhat full but leftover bag of 50-gallon mix that was somewhat hardened. Someone I knew had his tank crash so I mixed up the bag and used it to rinse off his rocks. If you want to save it, I'd suggest using it in a similar fashion. I'm not sure how much trace elements is lost over time.
