I don't know about water conditions you need for sea horses. I was very interested in getting a pair, until I read that they are very hard to care for, Its my understanding they need to be feed aleast 4 times a day and they are not very hardy. Later Lisa

OK Heres what one of my books say: Seahorses do best in a quite aquarium, they have very small mouths and require quantities of small live food to thrive, brineshrimp and rotifers are suitable. Seahorses are poor swimmers thus they need stuff to anchor themseves too. Hope this helps some, Later Lisa

Lisa is correct. They also need light current. I've had a pair B4, and I had problems with the live foods. You can hatch live brine shrimp eggs, or buy them in a baggie w/ h2o from some LFS, but even with great h2o quality, I myself anyway, found them to be very hard to keep. Very frail creatures. Good luck anyway, You may have better luck than me. Mine lived about 7 weeks.

Hey guy's,
Seahorse tanks are only as hard as you make them. They want a cooler temp say 75 to 78 degree is best. The LFS (local fish store) sell mostly WC (wild caught) you can get captive breed(CB) seahorses from www.oceanriders.com (http://www.oceanriders.com) Or www.ffexpress.com (http://www.ffexpress.com) I have few sources for Dwarf and Pygmy seahorses as well. The CB's are eating frozen mysis shrimp. So no live food involved and you protect this creature by not buying wild caughts.

The set up is close to a Reef set up with live rock and A DSB (deep sand bed), But with lower current say 3 to 5 times the tank volume.

I have a 40 gal seahorse tank you want lots of hiching post for you horses. I get the Tonga rock for this, It has more Branching styles.
And for feeding yes you need to feed 2 to 3 times per day. so a good cleanup crew and a DSB are hepful. They need to be feed often due to the fact they really have no stomace so they have to eat a lot to keep up there energy.HTH
