Hey. I've had my red cap oranda for about 5 months now. He is currently living in a one gallon tank with an air pump. I will be getting him an aquarium this summer when I move back home. Anyway, recently he has started to go to the surface and make bubbles. And they aren't quiet bubbles! I heard this means the fish is not getting enough oxygen. Is this true or is there another reason for my fish doing this? Please help! Thanks so much!

Im not sure why he would be blowing bubbles. But you may be over feeding him. If they have too much food in their stomach they will come up and gulp air to help push the food through their bodies This usually isnt a good thing. They can get many problems from gulping air. One of them is swim bladder disease (Bloat) which can cause them to float and in some cases soon die after. You should really try to get a bigger tank soon. Goldfish require atleast 8-10 gallons of water per fish.

How big is your oranda?
Do you test your water for anything?
Do you do 100% water changes?
How often do you do any water changes?
