I have a 56 galon tank which has been set up since August.

The pH has always been a little low [7.8] and today I tried to raise it using "Buffex".

I followed the instructions for my size of tank and the pH has now shot up to 8.8!
I did a 10% water change and there was no change in the pH.

Any suggestions?? Help!!

I'm going to do a 20% water change in a couple of hours and hope the pH in my tap water will bring it down a bit.

Anyone else out there with pH troubles? All my other levels are ok so far.

i don't know if you got your problem fixed yet but i would suggest that rather than go through all the water changing troubles... use some "ph down" and/or "ph up" to fix ph problems. you can pick it up any aquuarium supply store,.

Hello Tina
I just signed on to this forum today, and the first thing I have to say is STOP dont be adding all that stuff to your tank, cause it will come back to get ya-how does the rest of your water test out ? amon.-alk-nitrate,if you have a low alk you will have wide swings in your ph,give us some more info on your tank so we can help ya out better.......the best thing you can do at this point is a good water change IMO
later ozzy :D
