MOLLIES
(poecilia sphenops)

FAMILY: Poeciliidae (poeciliids)
ORIGIN: central and south america
SIZE:Maximum size is 4inches long for males. Females are a bit smaller.
DESCRIPTION: Mollies can be almost any colour or variation of. More common varities include pure black and silver white. Along with Dalmatian,Creamsicle and Gold Dust which are usually available. I personally have had a Dalmatian with Brown and Red spots not black. What is interesting is all are the same species and will interbreed readily, This can result in very interesting new colorations. There are also two tail(caudal fin) varities. There is the delta and Lyretail version.
CARE:Mollies require a temperature of 76-78dg farenheit. Water should be mildly hard with a PH of 7.0-7.5. Some people debate the use of salt. I use it as an energy booster and stress reducer in minimal portions.

Feeding: Mollies are very active and agressive eaters. They will eat anything on the surface that fits in their mouth. Sometimes they will take in a large piece and then spit it out for a second, then go after it again. Sometimes this leads people to believe that type of food is not liked. However this is not the case.
