Hi:
yes, the TetraTec filters are an excellent choice. Another good option is the Marineland Emperor filters.

Do what's comfortable for you. An over-sized filter does offer many advantages, so if the price difference is not that great, I would go with the larger one.

Ive read several articals and chat rooms where it is suggested to remove the bioballs from various filtration system. Why is this?

Are you doing a reef tank? That is usually only applicable to marine reef aquariums. If you are doing a reef tank, then we need to discuss filtration some more.
Power filters do not use Bio Balls so you won't need to worry about that, but if you are doing a reef tank, you will probably want a different filter as power filters are not that good for a reef aquarium application.

Ive upgraded from a 75 gal reef to a 130 gal reef. I have about 130 lbs of live sand (about 4 in deep) and about 140 lbs of live rock. I have 2 skilter 600 for mechanical and chemical filtration and protein skimming. Lighting, 2 compact 96watt blue actinic and 2 compact 96 watt datlight. I had mediocre results with the 75 gal I want to do better with this set up. Please advise

Sorry wsm1248:
I had you confused with J_Leigh3 above because you posted this as a reply to this thread instead of posting a new thread about your tank. I must have been tired when I replied to your post.
I would recommend a Berlin sump system and a protein skimmer instead of the Skilters, which have limited skimming capacity. You may also want to consider using some powerheads in the tank for additional water circulation.
Have you been investigating any Berlin systems or wet-dry filters yet? Please let me know your level of experience with these types of filtration and whether your new 130 is reef-ready (with built-in overflows).
I will reply with more details tomorrow. Just had oral surgery so I don't think I'll get much work done today, but I'll make up for that tomorrow.
