Hi guys, Im new to this board and new to saltwater. Im about to get started on a 55gal. I have my tank and stand and hood. Im planning on Live rock, Live sand, still need a protein skimmer and filter. I know I will need test kits etc. Im not planning on any coral right now.
My lighting is just the standard florescent, will I need anything different for fish and live rock only? Also right now Im thinking a pair of clownfish and a Yellow Tang, will these be OK together? I know the tang is quite a bit bigger thand the clowns. Also just wondering if there is anything I havnt thought of that you guys might think of. Also other sugestions on fish.

Thanks in advance

Hi ringside,

The standard Fl lights will work for a FOWLR but will give you very little "purple" coralline algae growth on your LR and will need a upgrade for any hard\soft corals, clams or anemone.

Some good skimmers for your tank would be,

or

As for a filter I would stay away from a canister and use a sump, a canister will cause lots of problems when used with LR.

I would add a small pump to help with water flow and a nice mix of crabs and snails to the tank after the 'cycle'

The tang should not mess with the clowns if the clowns are added into the tank first.
