Howdy all;

Been a while since I've been to the page. Oscar and Angel Mom did such a good job of getting me trained, that I have not had any real "aquarium emergencies" with any of my three tanks.
I think the last post I did was in reference to not being able to get snails to breed to use as a food source for my Amazon puffers. ( Got over that real quick).
The puffers are doing great...but I had to do dental work on them last week. Talk about nerve racking.
I used the three drops of pure clove oil in three cups of tank water, to knock them out....held the little guys under a magnifing glass and snipped their teeth (beaks) with nail clippers. Then put them in a recovery container until fully awake and back into the tank they went. The whole process took less than 10 minutes ( for three puffers).
I did find out that the snails we have in our aquariums usually have much tougher shells than those of the amazon region due to water composition. My puffers have figured out a way to eat the snails without having to crack the shells. Keeps them plenty healthy but doesn't help keep their teeth in check.
I was reading the posting from the fellow with the "cloudiness" problem and remembered when someone on this board told me to stop being such a "neat freak" with my tank, and in so many words to "Let Mother natures chemistry do it's job".
Hope all are doing well.
Tim

Glad to hear your finned kids are doing well. And wow ... sounds like you are going to be an expert puffer dentist in no time. :D

In the teeth 0of the puffers, try putting some food past in lava rock, so that they have to chew on it to get to the food. This might help keep their teeth in order. You might also try to put some hard shelled crawfish in with them.
