I am currently planning on buying a used Fresh water aquarium to convert to a salt water reef tank. My question is this. I am unsure if the previous owner used copper in the tank. I am not planning on using any of her previous equiment, substrate, media ect. I will just be using the tank itself (which I will clean with vinegar and water). Does anyone think that I will have an issue with copper when I start to put live coral into the tank? Thanks guys!

Shark-

Sorry it has taken someone so long to get to your question! I think this is one of those questions that you could ask 10 different people and possibly get ten different answers. My thoughts are this - if you are worried about it after you have cleaned the tank, run it with your substrate and some treated reef carbon for a week or two before you add any life. This should clean any remaning bits of impurities out of the tank that could cause problems.

Hope this helps! :)

If you really need to know, you can buy a copper test kit that will let you know for sure if you have ever had any copper in the system.

I saw fosters and smith had a test kit for 5-9 dollars roughly.
