I just set up my new 55 gallon tank with a cannister filter. I read about fishless cycling and have been doing this for one week. I added ammonia to spike BUT I USED ONE WITH SURFECANTS! Now I read after the fact that I should not have. What do I do now? My many gold fish are awaiting their new home.

Drain the tank, clean everything thoroughly (no soap), replace all filter media, and start over with pure ammonia.

Thank you so much. Yesterday I tore everything down, washed in a dilulted bleach and then rinsed in treated (chlorine remover) and then rinsed again and re set up. I put in Biospira and one little goldfish. He lived overnight and now my readings today 24 hours later are a bit less than 20 Nitrate, 0 Niotrite, 75 GH, 40 KH, 6.3 ph.

He is eating and swimming happily. When can I start to add another fish - my goldfish in the 20 gallon tank? I will add more BioSpira at the same time. Thanks again.
