Hi,
This may have been answered elsewhere in the forums, but I haven't had much luck finding everything in one place, so here it goes...
I'm planning to set up a new marine fish-only tank and need a shopping list and a little advice, primarily with the water system.

Here's what I have:
Sea Clear 48w x 13d x 20h tank (prox. 50 gal)
Lights and Stand
Planning: fish only (smaller and hardier)

Here's what I Need:
A complete list of everything needed to setup a wet-dry filter & water system, from scratch (please include pumps, filters, skimmers, tubing, connectors, tools, filter media, consumables, ozone?, UV?, etc).
And the same for an undergravel-system.
Please list brands and model numbers if any... I like having a starting point. I'm thinking more about quality on the systems, so cheaper is not necessarily better. I would, however, be very interested in a "kit" solution.

I also need some idea of what this will look like once properly put together.

I haven't seen much complaining about any particular filter system type in the forums... are there pros and cons that I'm missing? I'm leaning toward wet-dry, but lack any experience with that system.

I have a better understanding of the requirements for decoration, temperature control, lighting, testing, etc. (Info available is a little clearer) I'm just not familiar with the latest in filtration, and I am especially new to marine tanks!

Thanks for the help!

I can answer a few questions, ok so no live rock correct?

choose a substrate
aragonite sand is good, I'm guessing 60 lbs or so

Buy a heater
Some use two, i use a shatter proof one

Buy a Skimmer
It will do wonders for your water quality no matter what brand you get. Rimora pro is a nice one

Buy powerheads
I use two and point them at each other. i use the new koralia Water Circulation Nano pumps

buy testing supplies and saltmix. make sure to get a refractometer to check your SG

Some use an additional filter such as a hang on back or a canister. Remember to change the carbon often as it loses strength rather quickly.

Hope this will help a little, ill post more as i think of it.
