Hi all, The water in my area is in the high 7s and I'd like to ask 2 questions in this regard.

1) Are there any natural ways to bring down the pH? For example, certain types of mineral rock increase the alkaline, are there others that would decrease without resorting to additive.

2) Is there a problem using additives and what should I look for in a PH ballance or other water treatment? Most of the pet stores seem to recomend one type or another or water treatment but they could just trained to try and sell it.

Thanks, Erik

the best way is to use a ro unit, if that dosent work for you there is a product called ph low. works great when you follow the instructions

Hi!

It is important to remember that pH is affected by water hardness. An alkaline pH is usually due to hard water, so Robert's advice to use RO water is very sound.

Good pH lowering chemicals also contain ingredients that precipitate out hardness from the water so it can be removed as a solid by your filters, thereby preventing the pH from rising within a few days of lowering it.

In addition to Robert's suggestion, we have had good results with SeaChem Discus Buffer, Kent Neutral Controller, and Kent pH Stable.
