Could anyone tell me what the necesities are for starting up a quarintine tank for sick fish and corals? And what would be a proper size tank and lighting? Thanks for the help.
well it can be very simple, Take a small tank or one lying around, and add small amount of substarte and a heater, saltwater at lowere sality like 1.019 and add like a hang on filter. The key is a pcv pipe that fish can hide in and all. Foir corals you may want to have a pc lighting around or NO if you don't. Not to hard let us know how it goes!!!:)
I have two QT, both are 55g, I just ordered a 33g cubicle system (3 x 11G). QT sizing is based on your needs. As small as 10 gallons to a 55 G (for larger livestock) would do fine.
Everything should be separate from your main system. Lighting for what's needed (corals, vs. fish), heater, filter with beneficial bacteria, separate nets, and preferably water from your maintank.
If using medication in the QT, make sure everything is separated from main tank, rinsed, and sanitized after use and before reuse.
yeah NO INVERTS IF USING COPPER (ICK MEDICAN)

Should I use the water from the main tank or should I start with new fresh water?
Pull water from the surface of your main tank then add makeup water to the main tank, this will ensure water parameters of QT is close to main tank.
