Default Set up

I recently bought a new 40 gal. aquarium and plan to have assorted tropical fish. I do not like the fine gravel available in the pet store. I found some larger "decorative" white rock at my local Home Depot . It appears to be a granite of sorts. How can one find out if this is suitable for tropical fish?
Thank You

Put some vinegar or other acid on the rick to see if it fizzes. If it fizzes then it will each into the tank and may not be good for the tank. Also remember that the larger openings between the rocks will let more food down and be a potential for food build up and decay which can lead to fish death unless you are very careful about cleaning down in any cracks and crevasses.
