Default The Invasion of Snails!

:BUR Okay, I have a 5 gallon tank with some live plants living in it. Suddenly, snails started roaming around and I'm assuming they came from one of the plants I bought. All they do is multiply! What can I do?! :FCG :SNKG

Do all loaches eat snails? And if so, is there one small enough to maybe temporarily live in a 5 gallon. I don't want to use chemicals.

No, a loach shouldn't be in a 5 gallon. The guy at my LFS was even upset that I had them in a 10 gallon just long enough to treat them. Another fish that eats snails, especially small ones, is a goldfish. Maybe you can borrow one for a while, but be sure it can go back because 5 gallons is too small for them, too.

It is interesting, they seem to have thinnned out a little bit. Maybe it has something to do with the filter sucking up the babies.

Try a Green spot freshwater puffer, they are cool and eat lots of snails.

Blessings,

I had one of those, now I just have Figure Eight Puffers, but they're agressive.

Both of these fish are brackish water fish and need at least 30 gallons. If they are kept in freshwater at the store, you can start them off in it, but they need for it to be gradually raised to meet their requirements.

im sorry, you dont have enough water for any fish really. Move up to a 29 or 55g. the more water the easier it is to control.

i know its not cheap to buy a large tank. but you will enjoy the hobby so much more if you get more water.

Wait! The puffers aren't in the 5 gallon (Don't worry). I've done a TON of research on them and have had one for about a year now (It's and adorable fish).

That's the Green Spotted Puffer (In fact I just bought one maybe 30 minutes ago). It's brackish.
